Leonardo da Vinci was born near Florence, Italy in 1452. To say he was a genius is insufficient since his interests and gifts were so diverse. In the area of art, as a teen he was exposed to the town of Vinci's long painting tradition. Through apprenticeship he learned from a renowned artist and soon surpassed his master. Whether it was his multiple talents or something else, da Vinci seemed to start many more artistic projects than he finished. Some of his most famous works include the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Da Vinci died in France in 1519.
