Henri Matisse was born in France in 1869 and died in 1954. Prior to becoming an artist, he earned a degree in law. Two years after a serious illness at age 21, he gave up his work as a lawyer. His painting style was influenced by impressionist and post-impressionist painters such as Pisarro, Cezanne, Gauguin, van Gogh and others and he became the leader of the Fauvist movement. Later, cancer caused Matisse need a wheelchair. In this period he painted one of his most famous works
