Andy Warhol was born of Czechoslovak immigrant parents in Forest City, Pennsylvania about 1928. His father died tragically when he was 13. He graduated in 1949 from what is now Carnegie Mellon University. Moving to New York he built up such a reputation in the 1950's that he was one of the most sought-after commercial artists in the city. Later he became know as the "Prince of Pop" with works including the Campbell Soup Cans, Coca Cola and Marilyn Monroe. He died after a routine gall bladder operation in 1987.
