Brass drawer pulls and brown ceramic sinks won't be soaring back into fashion anytime soon, so replace them with modern options such as sleek stainless-steel sinks or brushed-nickel drawer pulls.
The updated look costs less than a total remodel. Individual fixtures run anywhere from $10 to a few hundred while a fixture makeover, including lights, sink, faucet, hardware, towel rings and accessories, can cost about $500.
Keizer, Ore., resident Julie Starr ripped out her outdated brass kitchen fixtures two years ago and replaced them with brushed stainless steel.
