Perhaps you’ve seen them on the side of a building, in a school or a subway station. I’m talking about murals. They have a dramatic effect. They’re larger than life. Want some drama in your home? How about a wall mural?! A woman who was a teacher’s aide was telling me about her mother who was an artist. Her mother had painted a wall mural for each of her daughter’s children (and her grandchildren) in their respective rooms. What a nice touch by which to always remember grandma. Wouldn’t it be great if we all had an artist or two in the family who could paint a dramatic or serene scene on a wall for us?
For those of who don’t have either a resident artist or another family or friend who could do this, there are other sources for putting up a wall mural. Find an artist locally that does mural work such as Marcine Kiessling in New Jersey. To find a local painter who does wall murals, do a Google search like this one. Replace “Chicago” and “Illinois” with your city and state. You might also try a slightly different search replacing “artist” with “painter.” You can also try the National Society of Mural Painters. Their listings are not by geography, so you might have better luck with the Google searches for a local artist.
If you want some ideas as to what kind of a wall mural or other decorative painting might go well with your space, visit Faux and Mural Works. This is an online gallery of mural works. Another excellent mural gallery with a mural painter search-by-geography feature is Mural Galleries. In fact, their website subtitle is, “finding mural artists just got easier.”
